African Flower Mandala

End of May and the flowers are in full bloom! Flowers brighten up any room whether they are real flowers in a vase or items made with floral fabric or crafted with yarn. This week to celebrate May flowers, I created a mandala with one of the most popular flower patterns on the internet, the African Flower Motif. 

According to the information on Ravelry, the African Flower Motif was created by Lounette Fourie and Anita Rossouw and first published in Sarie a South African magazine in June 2009. It was originally written in Afrikaans and was translated to other languages such as German, Finnish, Portuguese, and English. (History teacher coming through!)

This bright and cheery mandala is great for crocheters of all skill level since it is done with basic crochet stitches and includes one special stitch a spike single crochet.

This bright mandala is done in Paintbox cotton dk yarn, the color used are, 424 mustard yellow, 401 paper white, 448 pansy purple, 473 jam, 430 grass green, 434 marine blue, and 452 lipstick pink.

The Blue and green mandala is done in Paintbox cotton dk yarn, the color used are, 401 paper white, 433 washed teal, 434 marine blue, 440 sailor blue, 430 grass green, 470 macaron green, and 427 slate green.
