double crochet, rep – repeat, sl st – slip stitch, sc – single crochet, st(s) –
stitch(es), tr – treble crochet
Notes:
Ch-3 counts as a stitch.
Instructions:
Make a
magic circle
Rnd 1: Ch
3, 2 dc, ch 1, * 3 dc, ch 1, repeat from * two more times, join to beginning ch
3, fasten off. (12 dc, 4-ch-1 sps)
Rnd 2:
Join yarn to any ch-1 space, ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the same sp, (corner
made), * ch 1, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc in the next space, repeat from * two more
times, join to beginning ch 3, fasten off. (24 dc, 4 ch-2 sps, 4 ch-1 sps)
Rnd 3:
With the granny square facing you in a diamond shape with the ch-2 sp as the
top point, join yarn to the right side ch-2 corner (see photo below), sc in the ch-2 sp, hdc in
next st, dc in next st, tr in next st, 2 tr in ch-2 sp, tr in next st, dc in next
st, hdc in next st sl st in ch-2 sp, now working down the other side, hdc in
next st, dc in next st, tr in next st, 2 tr in ch-2 sp, tr in next st, dc in
next st, hdc in next st, sc in ch-2 sp, sc in each st and sp to the ch-2 sp (point of heart), 3 hdc in
ch-2 sp, sc in each st and sp to the beg ch-1 sp, join to beg sc, fasten off. (8
tr, 4 dc, 7 hdc, 16 sc, 1 sl st)
Rnd 4: Join
a new yarn to any st, sc in same st as join and in each st around, join, fasten
off. (36 sc)
Weave in
ends and block (since the hearts were made with cotton yarn, they were blocked
with a steam iron).
