Bar Stitch Beanie

Yarn: 1 skein-WooltoDye4-Cash DK MCN #40874, 231 yards/100 gr per skein        (this is undyed yarn so this is the natural color)

MaterialsUS Size 7 (4.5 mm) crochet hook, yarn needle, scissors, tape measure.

Difficulty: Beginner

Size: Finished size - Crown 6.5 in (16.5 cm), Height 7.25in (18.4 cm), Head circumference 20-23 in (50.8-58.4 cm)

Note: if you wish to make the beanie larger increase the crown rounds by one round (do 8 rounds instead of 7 rounds) and if you wish to make it smaller decrease the crown rounds (do 6 rounds instead of 7).

Gauge: 15 dc and 20 rows = 4” (10 cm)

Stitch Guidech(s)- chain(s), dc-double crochet, st(s)-stitch(s), sl st-slip stitch, hdc-half double crochet crochet, FPdc-front post double crochet

Special StitchesFront Post Double Crochet (FPdc): Yo, insert your hook from front to back to front around the post of the next stitch, yo, pull up a loop, yo, pull thru 2 loops on your hook, yo, pull thru remaining two loops on your hook.

Reverse Sc (Crab stitch)-insert hook in the next stitch to the right, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through the 2 loops on the hook. 

Notes: ch-2 and ch-3 do not count as a stitch.

Instructions:

Make a magic ring

Rnd 1: ch 3, 12 dc in the ring, sl st in the first dc made. (12 dc)

Rnd 2: ch 2, 2 dc in each stitch around, sl st to first dc made. (24 dc)

Rnd 3: ch 2, *2 dc in the first st, dc in the next st; repeat from * around, sl st to first dc made. (36 dc)

Rnd 4: ch 2, *2 dc in the first st, 1 dc in each of the next 2 sts; repeat from * around, sl st to first dc made. (48 dc)

Rnd 5: ch 2, *2 dc in the first st, 1 dc in each of the next 3 sts; repeat from * around, sl st to first dc made. (60 dc)

Rnd 6: ch 2, *2 dc in the first st, 1 dc in each of the next 4 sts; repeat from * around, sl st to first dc made. (72 dc)

Rnd 7: ch 2, *2 dc in the first st, 1 dc in each of the next 5 sts; repeat from * around, sl st to first dc made. (84 dc)

*Note: At this point the crown should measure 6.25 inches (16.5 cm) across.

Rnd 8: ch 2, *FPdc around the dc of the row below,  hdc in the next stitch; repeat from *around, sl st to first FPdc made.(42 FPdc, 42 hdc)

Rnd 9: ch 2, *FPdc around the next FPdc, hdc in the next stitch; repeat from * around, sl st to first FPdc made.(42 FPdc, 42 hdc)

Rnds: 10-23: Repeat round 9

Rnd 24:reverse sc in each stitch around. (84 reverse sc). This gives the beanie edge a finished look.

Fasten off.

Weave in ends and block.
