Retro Mandala

Yarn: Chunky Thread by Lori Holt or Sport weight #2 100% cotton yarn

Materials: US Size E/4 (3.5 mm) crochet hook, yarn needle, scissors, tape measure

Difficulty: Easy

Size: 10 ¼” (26.03 cm) around

Abbreviations and Stitches (U.S. Terms): ch – chain, dc – double crochet, rep – repeat, sc – single crochet, sk – skip, st(s) – stitch(es)

Notes: pattern is written in U.S. terms, ch-3 counts as a stitch

Instructions:

Start with a magic circle

Rnd 1: Ch 3, dc in circle, ch 2, *2 dc in circle, ch 2; rep from * 4 more times, join to beg ch-3, fasten off. (12 dc, 6 ch-2 sps)

Rnd 2: Join yarn to any ch-2 sp, ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the same sp as join, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next ch-2 sp; rep from * around, join to beg ch-3, fasten off. (24 dc, 6 ch-2 sps)

Rnd 3: Join yarn to any ch-2 sp, ch 2, *sk the next 2 dc, sc in the sp between the dc groups, ch 2, sc in the next ch-2 sp, ch 2; rep from * around, join to beg join st, fasten off. (12 sc, 12 ch-2 sps)

Rnd 4: Join yarn to any ch-2 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp as join, ch 1, * 3 dc in the next ch-2 sp, ch 1; rep from * around, join to beg ch-3, fasten off. (12- 3 dc clusters, 12 ch-1 sps)

Rnd 5: Join yarn to any ch-1 sp, ch 4, *sc in the next ch-1 sp, ch 4; rep from * around, join to beg ch-4, fasten off. (12 sc, 12 ch-4 sps)

Rnd 6: Join yarn to any ch-4 sp, ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the same sp as join, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next ch-4 sp; rep from * around, join to beg ch-4, fasten off. (48 dc, 12 ch-2 sps)

Rnd 7: Join yarn to any ch-2 sp, ch 3, *sk the next 2 dc, sc in the sp between the dc groups, ch 3, sc in the next ch-2 sp, ch 2; rep from * around, join to beg join st, fasten off. (24 sc, 24 ch-3 sps)

Rnd 8: Join yarn to any ch-3 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp as join, ch 1, *3 dc in the next ch-3 sp, ch 1; rep from * around, join to beg ch-3, fasten off. (24- 3 dc clusters, 24 ch-1 sps)

Rnd 9: Join yarn to any ch-1 sp, ch 4, *sc in the next ch-1 sp, ch 4; rep from * around, join to beg ch-4, fasten off. (24 sc, 24 ch-4 sps)

Rnd 10: Join yarn to any ch-4 sp, ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the same sp as join, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next ch-4 sp; rep from * around, join to beg ch-3, fasten off. (96 dc, 24 ch-2 sps)

Rnd 11: Join yarn to any ch-2 sp, ch 3, *sk the next 2 dc, sc in the sp between the dc groups, ch 3, sc in the next ch-2 sp, ch 3; rep from * around, join to beg join st, fasten off. (48 sc, 48 ch-3 sps)

Rnd 12: Join yarn to any ch-3 sp, ch 3, 2 dc in same sp as join, *3 dc in the next ch-3; rep from * around, join to beg ch-3, fasten off. (48- 3 dc clusters)

Rnd 13: Join yarn to any sp between the 3-dc cluster, ch 3, *sc in the next sp between the next 3 dc cluster, ch 3; rep from * around, join to beg ch-3, fasten off. (48 sc, 48 ch-3 sps)

Rnd 14: Join yarn to any ch-3 sp, ch 3, dc, ch 2, 2 dc in the same sp as join, *(2 dc, ch 2, 2 dc) in the next ch-3 sp; rep from * around, join to beg ch-3, fasten off. (192 dc, 48 ch-2 sps)

Weave in ends and for best results block.
