Skully Coasters

Yarn: Purl Soho, Cotton Chirp Dk, or any size #3 dk cotton yarn.

Materials: US Size F/5 (3.75 mm) crochet hook, yarn needle, scissors, tape measure

Difficulty: Easy

Size: 4” (10.16 cm) round

Gauge: 23 sts per inch

Abbreviations and Stitches (U.S. Terms): beg – beginning, ch – chain, dc – double crochet, hdc – half double crochet, rep – repeat, sc – single crochet, sk – skip, sl st – slip stitch, st(s) – stitch(es)

Notes: Ch 3 counts as a stitch

Instructions:

Magic circle

Rnd 1: Ch 3, 9 dc in the circle, ch 5, dc, ch 3, dc in the circle, ch 5, sl st into the 3rd ch of beg ch-3. (12 dc, 2 ch-5 sps, 1 ch-3 sp)

Rnd 2: Sc in same st as join and in the next 9 sts, 6 sc in the ch-5 sp, (sl st, 4 dc, sl st) in the ch-3 sp, 6 sc in the next ch-5 sp, join to beg sc, fasten off. (22 sc, 2 sl st, 4 dc)

Rnd 3: Join a new yarn to the same st as join, sc in the next 15 sts, dc in the next st (the sl st from rnd 2), sc in the next 4 sts, dc in the next st (the sl st from rnd 2), sc in the last 6 sts, join to beg sc. (26 sc, 2 dc)

Rnd 4: Hdc in the same st as join, and in each st around, join to beg hdc, fasten off. (28 hdc)

Rnd 5: Join yarn to any hdc, sc in same st as join, ch 2, *skip next st, sc in next st, ch 2; rep from * around, join to beg sc, fasten off. (14 sc, 14 ch-2 sps)

Rnd 6: Join yarn to any ch-2 sp, ch 2, 2 hdc in the same sp, *3 hdc in the next ch-2 sp; rep from * around, join to beg ch-2. (42 hdc)

Rnd 7: Ch 1, sc in the next st and in each st around, join to beg sc, fasten off. (42 sc)
