Materials: US Size H/8 (5 mm) crochet hook, yarn needle, scissors, tape measure
Difficulty: Easy
Size: Can be made to fit all sizes from
baby to adult (see notes below)
Gauge: 16 hdc x 11 rows = 4” (10.16 cm)
Abbreviations
and Stitches (U.S. Terms):
blo – back loop only, ch – chain, hdc – half double crochet, rep – repeat, sc –
single crochet, sl st – slip stitch, st(s) – stitch(es), tch – turning ch
*Notes: Ch 1 does not count as a stitch. Without embellishments the headband is reversable.
To
customize the headband:
Width
of the headband:
Ch
9 = 2” (5.08 cm) wide
Ch
11 = 2 ½” (6.35 cm) wide
Ch
13 = 3” (7.62 cm) wide
Ch
15 = 3 ½” (8.89 cm) wide
Ch 17 = 4” (10.16 cm) wide
Length
of headband: it is
best to measure the circumference of the head, noting that the headband should
be 1 to 2 inches (2.54 cm-5.08 cm) smaller than head circumference, since the
headband is done in a stretchy textured pattern. (If your yarn is stretchy, you
may need to make further adjustments)

Instructions: The pattern is written for a
headband that is 20 inches (50.8 cm) around and 3½ inches (8.89 cm) wide, but
you can adjust the size of the headband. (see *notes above)
Foundation
row: Ch 15
Row 1: Sc in the second ch from hook and
in each ch across, ch 1, turn. (14 sc)
*All the
rows from here on will be done in the blo (back loop only)
Rows 2-50: hdc in the blo of each st across,
ch 1, turn. (14 blo hdc)
After the
desired length is reached, leave a long tail for sewing the headband together.
Join
ends:
Using your
yarn needle sew the ends of the headband together using the invisible seam or
whip stitch. fasten off and weave in ends.
Embellish with buttons, bows, or flowers to dress up your headband.
