Holiday Star Coasters

Yarn:
 16.5m/18yds of Hue-Mongous 100% cotton size 3 yarn by Madlandia per coaster, and 33m/36yds of Chunky Thread 100% cotton size 2 yarn by Lori Holt per coaster (2 strands held together). *See pattern notes below.

Materials: Size (3.75 mm) crochet hook, yarn needle, scissors, tape measure

Difficulty: Easy

Size: 5” (12.7 cm) across

Gauge: 15 sts x 18 rows = 4” (10.16 cm)

Abbreviations and Stitches (U.S. Terms): beg – beginning, ch – chain, dc – double crochet, hdc – half double crochet, rep – repeat, sc – single crochet, sk – skip, sp – space, st(s) – stitch(es), tr – treble crochet.

Notes: Pattern is written in U.S. Terms, Ch-3 counts as a stitch.

*The red, green and gold coasters were done in Hue-Mongous 100% cotton size 3 yarn by Madlandia and the white coaster was done in Chunky Thread 100% cotton size 2 yarn by Lori Holt

*If you are using a size 3 cotton yarn you will crochet with 1 strand, if you are using a size 2 cotton crochet with 2 strands held together.

*These star coasters can be blocked or unblocked, if you do not block the coaster the star will have a more rounded look, blocking the star achieves the pointed star look.

Instructions:

Make a magic circle

Rnd 1: Ch 2, 9 hdc in the circle, join to beg ch-2. (10 hdc)

Rnd 2: Ch 2, hdc in the same st as join, 2 hdc in the next st and in each st around, join to beg ch-2. (20 hdc)

Rnd 3: Ch 2, 2 hdc in the next st, *hdc in the next st, 2 hdc in the next st; rep from * around, join to beg ch-2. (30 hdc)

Rnd 4: Ch 2, hdc in the next st, 2 hdc in the next st, * hdc in the next 2 sts, 2 hdc in the next st; rep from * around, join to beg ch-2. (40 hdc)

Rnd 5: *Sc in the first st, hdc in the next st, 2 dc in the next st, 2 tr in the next st, ch 1, 2 tr in the next st, 2 dc in the next st, hdc in the next st, sc in the next st; rep from * around. Join to beg sc, fasten off. (10 sc, 10 hdc, 20 dc, 20 tr, 5 ch-1 sps)

Weave in ends and for best results block. *see notes about blocking
