Summer Scarf

June 14, 2024 blog post has more information about the pattern.

Yarn: Lion Brand Coboo, 150g, (475yd/318m) #173 Lichen

Materials: US Size G (4.0mm) crochet hook, yarn needle, scissors,

Difficulty: Easy

Size: Finished size - 5 inches (12.7 cm) wide by 51 inches (129.5 cm) long

Gauge: 18 sc and 20 rows = 4”

Stitch Guide: ch(s) - chain(s), sc - single crochet, hdc - half double crochet, dc - double crochet, RS - right side, st(s) – stitch(s)

Special Stitches: Reverse sc- insert hook in the next stitch to the right, yarn over and pull up a loop, yarn over and pull through the 2 loops on the hook.

Spike dc- yarn over, insert hook into stitch or space 1 or more rows below, pull up a loop, bringing it up to the height of current round, (yarn over and pull through 2 loops on hook) 2 times

Notes: Edging rows are worked in continuous rounds Rows 2, 3, and 4 were repeated a total of 54 times to make the scarf 51 inches long *This is a revision of my Light and Lacy scarf pattern published in Happily Hooked Magazine Issue #7, October 2014*

Instructions:

Ch 23

Row 1 (RS): Sc in the second chain from hook and in each ch across. Turn. (22 sc)

Row 2: Ch 7 (counts as a dc and ch 4), * skip the next 4 sts, dc in the next 4 sts, ch 4; repeat from * to the last 5 sts, skip the next 4 sts, dc in the last st. Turn. (10 dc, 3 ch-4 sps)

Row 3: Ch 4 (counts as a hdc and ch 2), (the following Spike sts will be worked (over the ch-4 of previous row) into the sc sts two rows below) * skip first sc, spike dc in the next two sc sts, skip last sc st, ch 2, (now working in current row), skip next dc, hdc in the next two sts, skip next dc, ch 2; repeat from * to the last ch-4 space, skip first sc, spike dc in the next two sc sts, skip last sc, ch 2, hdc in the third ch of the ch-7 of previous row. Turn. (6 spike dc, 6 hdc, ch-2 sps)

Row 4: Ch 1, 2 sc in the ch-2 space, * sc in the next 2 sts, 2 sc in the ch-2 space; repeat from * across, end with sc in the last ch-2 space and sc in the second ch of ch-4 of previous row. Turn. (22 sc)

Repeat rows 2, 3, and 4 until the scarf is the desired length, making sure to end with row 4

Edging:

Round 1: Ch 1, sc in each st across top, turn and work 3 sc in the first chain loop along the side, then continue working along the side as follows, (see photos below) *sc in the next chain loop, 3 sc in the next chain loop; repeat from * to the last chain loop on the side, 3 sc in last chain loop, turn, sc in each st across chain edge, turn and work 3 sc in the first chain loop along the side, then continue working along the side as follows, *sc in the next chain loop, 3 sc in the next chain loop; repeat from * to the last chain loop along the side, 3 sc in the last chain loop, join to beg sc.

  
Round 2: ch 1, reverse sc in each st around, join to beginning reverse sc, end off, weave in ends.
