Crochet Jar Covers

Yarn:
Hue-Mongous 100% cotton yarn by Madlandia

Materials: US Size E/4 (3.5 mm) and G/6 (4 mm) crochet hooks, yarn needle, scissors, tape measure, and 12 oz Ball mason jar and 24 oz Ball mason jar.

Difficulty: Easy

Size: 12-16 oz jar- laying flat- 5” (12.7 cm) tall x 4 ¾” (12 cm) wide

24-32 oz jar- laying flat 7” (17.78 cm) tall x 6” (15.24 cm) wide

Gauge: 20 sts x 26 rows

Abbreviations and Stitches (U.S. Terms): ch – chain, dc – double crochet, rep – repeat, sc – single crochet, sk – skip, st(s) – stitch(es)

Notes: Beginning ch 3 counts as a stitch. The jars used in the photos are 12 oz Ball mason jar and 24 oz Ball mason jar. Pattern was written with color changes, if using one color sl st to the next place to begin next row.

Instructions: (12-16 oz jar)

Make a magic circle

Rnd 1: Using a G/6 (4 mm) crochet hook, ch 3, 9 dc in the circle, join to beg ch-3. (10 dc)

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in the same st as join, 2 dc in each st around, join to beg ch-3. (20 dc)

Rnd 3: Ch 3, dc in the same st as join, dc in next st, *2 dc in the next st, dc in next st; rep from * around, join to beg ch-3. (30 dc)

Rnd 4: Join yarn to any st, sc in the same st as join, *ch 3, sk 2 sts, sc in the next 3 sts; repeat from * around to the last 2 sts, sc in the last 2 sts, join to beg sc. (6 ch-3 sps, 18 sc)

Rnd 5: Join yarn to any ch-3 sp, ch 3, 4 dc in the same sp, sk next st, sc in the next st, sk the next st, *5 dc in the next ch-3 sp, sk next st, sc in the next st, sk the next st; repeat from * around, join to beg ch-3. (30 dc, 6 sc)

Rnd 6: join yarn to 2nd dc of the 5-dc group, sc in same st as join, sc in the next 2 sts, ch 3, *sk the next 3 sts, sc in the next 3 sts, ch 3; rep from * around, join to beg sc. (6 ch-3 sps, 18 sc)

Rnd 7: Join yarn to any ch-3 sp, ch 3, 4 dc in the same sp, sk next st, sc in the next st, sk the next st, *5 dc in the next ch-3 sp, sk next st, sc in the next st, sk the next st; repeat from * around, join to beg ch-3. (30 dc, 6 sc)

Rep Rnds 6 & 7 until the Jar Cover reaches 5” (12.7 cm) or desired length. Make sure to end with Rnd 7.

Instructions: (24-32 oz jar)

Rnd 2: Ch 3, dc in the same st as join, 2 dc in each st around, join to beg ch-3. (20 dc)

Rnd 4: Ch 3, dc in the same st as join, dc in next 2 sts, *2 dc in the next st, dc in the next 2 sts; rep from * around, join to beg ch-3. (40 dc)

Rnd 5: Join yarn to any st, sc in the same st as join, *ch 3, sk 2 sts, sc in the next 3 sts; repeat from * around to the last 2 sts, sc in the last 2 sts, join to beg sc. (8 ch-3 sps, 24 sc)

Rnd 6: Join yarn to any ch-3 sp, ch 3, 4 dc in the same sp, sk next st, sc in the next st, sk the next st, *5 dc in the next ch-3 sp, sk next st, sc in the next st, sk the next st; repeat from * around, join to beg ch-3. (40 dc, 8 sc)

Rnd 7: join yarn to 2nd dc of the 5-dc group, sc in same st as join, sc in the next 2 sts, ch 3, *sk the next 3 sts, sc in the next 3 sts, ch 3; rep from * around, join to beg sc. (8 ch-3 sps, 24 sc)

Rnd 8: Join yarn to any ch-3 sp, ch 3, 4 dc in the same sp, sk next st, sc in the next st, *5 dc in the next ch-3 sp, sk next st, sc in the next st; repeat from * around, join to beg ch-3. (40 dc, 8 sc)

Rep Rnds 7 & 8 until the Jar Cover reaches 7” (17.78 cm) or desired length. Make sure to end with Rnd 8.
