Abbreviations and Stitches (U.S. Terms): ch – chain, dc – double crochet, rep – repeat, Rs- right side, sc – single crochet, sk – skip, st(s) – stitch(es)

Notes: Ch-3 counts as a stitch.

Dk (size 3) cotton yarn can be used for the Granny Rectangles, just note the size will be a bit larger than with the Sport Weight yarn.

Instructions: (Granny Rectangle-make 22 or as many as needed for desired length of Granny Chain)

Ch 33

Row 1: 3 dc in the 6th ch from hook, * sk 2 sts, 3 dc in the next st; rep from * to the last 3 sts, sk 2 sts, dc in the last st, fasten off. (29 dc)

Now you will be working around row 1

Rnd 1: Join yarn to the last sp made, (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc), in the same sp, 3 dc in the next sp, and in each sp to the end, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the end sp, turn, now working down the other side, work 3 dc in the next sp and each sp to the end, join to beg ch-3, fasten off. (66 dc, 4 ch-2 sps)

Rnd 2: With long side of granny rectangle facing you, join yarn to the top right ch-2 sp, (ch 3, 2 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the same sp, 3 dc in the next sp and each sp to the next ch-2 sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next 2 ch-2 sps, now working down the other side, 3 dc in the next sp and in each sp to the next ch-2 sp, (3 dc, ch 2, 3 dc) in the next ch-2 sp, join to beg ch-3, fasten off. (81 dc, 4 ch-2 sps)

Weave in ends and for best results block.

Joining the granny rectangles together:

Take one granny rectangle and fold in half with right sides together, beginning in the right-hand corner join the two sides together using the invisible join method. This method creates a flat seam, B. Hooked Crochet has a great video explaining the invisible join method. Work across to the other end, fasten off, weave in ends and turn to the right side. The granny Rectangle should now be a circle. (see photos below)

Slip the second rectangle through the first and join in the same manner as the first rectangle, with right sides together and using the invisible join method, fasten off, weave in ends and turn to the right side.

Continue adding each rectangle in the same manner until you have added all the rectangles and the Granny Chain is the desired length.
