Zig Zag Heart Scarf

Yarn:

Stylecraft Special Dk yarn (322 yds/100g per skein) 1 skein of # 1123 Claret

Expression Fiber Arts, Superwash Merino Sock Yarn (400yds/366m per skein) 1 skein of Parrot Feathers, photo in blog post

Materials:

US Size G (4.0 mm) crochet hook for Dk yarn scarf and size F (3.75 mm) crochet hook for sock yarn scarf, yarn needle, scissors

Difficulty:

Beginner

Size:

Dk Yarn = 5” X 50” with a size G (4.0 mm) crochet hook (a total of 147 rows were completed)

Sock Yarn = 4 ½” X 50 “ with a size F (3.75 mm) crochet hook

(a total of 185 rows were completed)

Gauge:

Dk yarn-22 sc and 30 rows = 4”

Sock Yarn- 32 sc and 40 rows = 4”

Stitch Guide:

ch(s) –chain(s), sc – single crochet, dc – double crochet, st(s) – stitch(es), RS – right side

Special Stitches:

Puff stitch- yarn over, insert hook into stitch indicated and pull up a loop, (yarn over insert hook into same stitch and pull up a loop) 2 times, yarn over and pull through all 7 loops on the hook, ch 1 to close the stitch.

Notes:

The ch-1 at the beginning of the row counts as a stitch.

Rows 2 and 3 were repeated a total of 144 times to make the scarf 50” long

Instructions:

Ch 31

Row 1 (RS): Sc in the 6th chain from hook (counts as a dc and ch-3), sc in the next 2 chs, * ch 3, skip 3 chs, (Puff st, ch 2, Puff st ) in the next ch, ch 3, skip next 3 chs, sc in next 3 chs; repeat from * to the last 3 chs, ch 3, skip next 2 chs, dc in the last ch. Turn. – 9 sc + 4 Puff sts + 6 ch-3 spaces + 2 ch-2 spaces + 2 dc

Row 2: Ch 1, sc in the first st, sc in ch-3 space, * ch 3, (Puff st, ch 2, Puff st) in the center sc of the 3-sc group, ch 3, sc in ch-3 space, sc in ch-2 space, sc in ch-3 space; repeat from * to the last 3 sc group, ch 3, (Puff st, ch 2, Puff st) in the center sc of the 3-sc group, ch 3, sc in the last space and in the 3rd ch of ch-6 of the previous row. Turn. – 10 sc + 6 Puff sts + 6 ch-3 spaces + 3 ch-2 spaces

Row 3: Ch 6 (counts as a dc and ch-3), sc in ch-3 space, sc in ch-2 space, * sc in the next ch-3 space, ch 3, (Puff st, ch 2, Puff st), in center sc of 3-sc group, ch 3, sc in the next ch-3 space, sc in the next ch-2 space; repeat from * to the last ch-3 space, sc in ch-3 space, ch 3, dc in last st. Turn. – 9 sc + 4 Puff sts + 6 ch-3 spaces + 2 ch-2 spaces + 2 dc

Repeat rows 2 and 3 until the scarf reaches the desired length, making sure to end with row 2.

Fasten off.

Weave in ends and block.
