.

Difficulty:

Easy

Stitch Guide:

ch(s) –chain(s), sl st – slip stitch, sc – single crochet, dc – double crochet,  hdc - Half double crochet, st(s) – stitch(es), tr – treble crochet

Gauge:

15 sc and 16 rows = 4” (10.16 cm)

Notes:

The ch-2 at the beginning of the row counts as a stitch.

For Garland make 8 stars (or how ever many you want for your garland)

For ornament make one star

Finished Size: each star is 4” (10.16 cm), the length of the garland is up to you.

Instructions for Star: Make a magic ring (circle) Rd 1: Ch 2, 9 sc in the ring, join to beginning ch 2. (10 sc) Rd 2: 2 sc in each st around, join to beginning st (20 sc)   Rd 3: *ch 6, sl st in the second ch from hook, hdc in the next ch, dc in the next 2 chs, tr in the next ch, skip 3 sts, ss in the next st, repeat from * around, join to beginning ch 6, finish off. (5 tr, 10 dc, 5 hdc, 5 sl sts)

Weave in ends and block (since the stars were made with cotton yarn, they were blocked with a steam iron).

Making the garland:

Modern style:

Using yarn in a color of your choice, ch 15, ss into the first ch (furthest from the hook) to create a loop for hanging.

Ch 15, *ss into top of first star, ch 15. Repeat from * eight times, until all stars are attached.

Ch 30, ss into the fifteenth ch from hook for another loop. Fasten off, weave in ends.

Country style:

The length of the garland is up to you.  Cut the twine the desired length. The twine was a little thick so one strand was removed, leaving two strands of twine for the garland.

Using 8 stars, Lay out the stars in the desired pattern

Attach the twine from front to back of the top of the star using a large yarn needle, Add bells to the garland by threading them on twine in between the stars. (I tied a knot in the top of the bells so they did not slide on the twine), Make a loop at each end of the garland for hanging.

Ornament:

Using yarn, Twine, or ribbon, cut to desired length and thread through any top point of the star, and knot the two ends together. Embellish with beads, buttons, or bobbles.
