Granny Square and a Half

Happy Valentine’s Day to all! I bring to you the traditional granny square, since this is one of the patterns I love the most. Granny squares are versatile and are used to make all different types of garments, home decorations, Afghans (blankets), placemats, table runners, bags, and purses. Granny squares are loved by many since they are quick and easy to make and allow you to be creative with color! In the crochet world we celebrate granny square day in August and they are one of the most popular crochet items on the internet, you can find just about anything made with granny squares.

For me they are nostalgic, how many of you remember a granny square afghan (blanket) draped over the couch at home or at grandmas house? Or have seen a granny square afghan (blanket) in TV shows? I have been crocheting for over 40 years and find it interesting that granny squares never seem to go out of style.

Here we go a skein, fresh off the hook:

Granny squares are made with two crochet stitches, the chain stitch and double crochet stitch, making them great for crocheters of all skill levels.

The granny square pattern for this week includes the instructions for a half granny square since there are many items made with granny squares that require half granny squares.

For the month of February, I would like to introduce you to a great new yarn. All of the patterns for this month are made with Madlandia, Hue-Mongous 100% cotton dk size 3 yarn. As you can see from the photos this yarn has bright and beautiful colors. The yarn is easy to work with and is a great value for the money. You can check out the yarn at Madlandia. (note: I am not receiving anything for putting this yarn information on my blog, I like the yarn and just wanted to share it with you!)

Have a hooky day! Lynne
