Granny Square Drawstring Pouch

Here we are at the end of April and the last pattern for our Granny Square accessory month. Last week I shared with you the Granny Stripe Shoulder Bag. It is a great medium size bag! But do you ever just need a small bag to hold a few things? I have been known to throw my crochet hook, scissors, yarn needle, and stitch markers in the large bag with my yarn and they get stuck in the yarn or fall out of the bag! Having a small pouch for my crochet tools is a great way of keeping those small items together.

Fresh off the hook:

                                  The Granny Square Drawstring Pouch

This is a quick and easy, stash-busting pattern uses only a small amount of cotton dk yarn and is great for crocheters of all levels! You can make the pouch larger or smaller by adjusting the size of the granny square!

This drawstring pouch has so many uses, besides crochet tools, it can be used as a trinket bag, a party favor, to hold small presents or organize small items.

I don't know about you, but I love to make granny squares since they are quick and easy! It is fun to figure out ways to put them together to make useful items!

Granny Stripe Shoulder Bag

Hello to all,

As we continue with Granny Accessory month, this week we are going to focus on something that is fashionable and functional; handbags, purses, bags, totes, whatever we call them, they are something we all use. We need something to throw our necessary items into for that next event. They come in all shapes and sizes and are made of many different materials, but crochet bags have been a beloved accessory for years, and for good reason. According to Charitable Hooker, Crochet bags "are versatile, stylish, and durable, making them a great option for anyone in need of a new bag. They are eco-friendly, and an environmentally conscious choice." And have become so popular for Spring and Summer that purse manufactures are selling them.

Crochet bags are really easy to make, and you can make them unique by adding your own creativity and flair to them. So instead of spending a lot of money on one, why not crochet your own?

Here we go a skein, fresh off the hook:

                                Granny Stripe Shoulder Bag

This easy granny striped bag is done using colorful cotton yarn and is a great scrap yarn project! The pattern uses the classic granny striped stitch in the round, so there are no seams to deal with. (unless you add a lining to your bag).

This pattern can be adjusted since the granny stripe pattern is done in multiples of three and the strap length is up to you! You can use the bag as is, or you can add a lining to the bag which will make it sturdier. And don't forget to add your sew in magnetic snap closure.

Grab that crochet hook and yarn and lets crochet that new bag!

Have a hooky day! Lynne

Granny Square Pocket Scarf

Have you ever seen an advertisement for something and thought, wow, I would like to try that? I was looking on Facebook and an advertisement came up for Red Heart "All In One Granny Square Yarn", I thought wow! that would be cool no more color changes and weaving in multiple ends. I watched a few YouTube videos on how to make Granny Squares using the Granny Square yarn. To my surprise, in most of the videos the crocheters were a little discouraged with the yarn at the beginning, but then after making a few squares they got the hang of it. I am always up for a challenge so I bought a few skeins.

It was as the other crocheters stated in their videos, a little challenging to get the yarn to end at the exact spot to start the next row, but after plenty of frogging (ripping out) and changes in tension, I was able to do it! So here is the project  made with the first set of squares using the Granny Square yarn.

Here we go a skein, fresh off the hook:

                                Granny Square Pocket Scarf

This easy to make pocket scarf has 10-6”(15.24 cm) x 6”(15.24cm) granny squares and 2-6”(15.24 cm) x 6”(15.24cm) solid squares. The solid squares are joined with additional Granny Squares to form pockets at either end of the scarf. The pockets are great to hold small items such as lip balm, mini tissue, a house key etc...........

Would I use this Granny Square yarn again? Yes, I would, I love the color combinations of the yarn and once you figure it out it is pretty easy! I am hoping they make it in a Dk or sport weight yarn.

Mini Granny Square Bandana

Last month I had so much fun with granny squares and stripes, so why not work with them again this month! In March, we used the granny square and granny stripe patterns to make items for the home, but the focus this month will be on granny Squares to wear. Did you know you can crochet just about anything using the granny square and granny stripe pattern? These patterns have been used to make clothing, jewelry, belts, hats, scarves and more!

We are starting off with a crochet version of a bandana. The bandana has a long history and according to the Mads Jakobsen in his article The History of the Bandana, "it is considered to be one of the most versatile pieces of clothing that has entered the wardrobe of Western civilization", they are a handy accessory to have. For more on the History of the bandana, check out The History of the Bandana. (As a former High school History teacher, I love to share where things originate from.)

Here we go a skein, fresh off the hook:

                               Mini Granny Square Bandana

This is an easy to make bandana using mini granny squares and and half granny squares. The squares were joined with a sc join to add texture and finished off with a picot edging.
The great thing about bandanas is that they can also be used as neck scarves.

Grab your hook and yarn and lets make some cute crochet bandanas!
