Last month I had so much fun with granny squares and stripes, so why not work with them again this month! In March, we used the granny square and granny stripe patterns to make items for the home, but the focus this month will be on granny Squares to wear. Did you know you can crochet just about anything using the granny square and granny stripe pattern? These patterns have been used to make clothing, jewelry, belts, hats, scarves and more!
We are starting off with a crochet version of a bandana. The bandana has a long history and according to the Mads Jakobsen in his article The History of the Bandana, "it is considered to be one of the most versatile pieces of clothing that has entered the wardrobe of Western civilization", they are a handy accessory to have. For more on the History of the bandana, check out The History of the Bandana. (As a former High school History teacher, I love to share where things originate from.)
Here we go a skein, fresh off the hook:
This is an easy to make bandana using mini granny squares and and half granny squares. The squares were joined with a sc join to add texture and finished off with a picot edging. The great thing about bandanas is that they can also be used as neck scarves.
Have a hooky day! Lynne
