Star Flower Granny square

The last granny square for the month of August is the Star Flower granny square. This granny squares reminds me of the summer stars in the sky, the star at the top of the Christmas tree, and the fireworks on the fourth of July. Stars have been a part of many people lives and hold many different meanings. They are something that shine bright all year around.

Here we go a-skein something fresh off the hook:

The color combinations were fun to put together! As I was thinking of colors combinations to use, I was reminded that the summer will be ending soon, and we will be falling into the holiday season. So, I made the Star Flower Granny in holiday colors.

The Holiday Granny was done in Stylecraft Special Dk yarn colors: 1709 Gold, 1005 Cream, 1116 Green, 1246 Lipstick.

The Winter Blue Granny was done in Stylecraft Special Dk yarn colors: 1002 Black, 1001 White, 1034 Sherbet, 1068 Turquoise.

The Just Peachy Granny was done in Stylecraft Special Dk yarn colors: 1005 Cream, 1026 Apricot, 1065 Meadow, 1132 Shrimp.

The Americana Granny was done in Stylecraft Special Dk yarn colors: 1246 Lipstick, 1001 White, 1722 Strom Blue.

December is right around the corner, so it is time to start thinking about crochet gifts. I will begin with one of the most common gifts that people crochet, coasters. September will be coaster month. There will be new patterns and a few of the previous patterns renewed.

Have a hooky day,

Lynne

Framed Granny Square

I hope you all participated in Granny Square Day 2023! I submitted pictures of the Cross Granny square and Small Daisy Granny square. It was exciting to see all the different granny squares from around the world!

Even though Granny Square Day has passed, I decided to devote my August posts to granny squares so here we go a-skein something fresh off the hook,

                               The Framed Granny Square

This is a traditional Granny Square with a black frame. The frame is done in half double crochet stitches in an even number around the entire square so joining your squares together will be much easier.

Each square was done in different color combinations from bright yarn colors to blues and oranges. The color combinations for each square are as follows.

The Bright Granny was done in Stylecraft Special Dk yarn colors: 1257 Fiesta, 1114 Sunshine, 1256 Jaffa, 1068 Turquoise, 1002 Black.

The Purple Passion Square was done in Stylecraft Special DK yarn colors: 1425 Emperor, 1277 Violet, 1188 Lavender, 1432 Wisteria, 1002 Black.

The Blue Green square was done in Stylecraft Special DK yarn colors: 1001 White, 1034 Sherbet, 1422 Aspen, 1062 Teal, 1002 Black.

The Pumpkin Spice Square was done in Stylecraft Special DK colors: 1420 Camel, 1709 Gold, 1711 Spice, 1029 Copper, 1002 Black.

The Faded Orange Square was done in Stylecraft Special DK colors: 1256 Jaffa, 1132 Shrimp, 1026 Apricot, 1240 Soft Peach, 1002 Black.

Three reasons Granny Squares are so popular:

1. Granny squares are unique in that the change of colors gives it a different look and the color combinations are endless.

2. They have been used in all types of blankets, decorations, clothing, bags, and jewelry!

3. They are quick and easy to make and are good to take on trips since they take small amounts of yarn and are small enough to store in a bag or suitcase.

I have only listed three reasons why Granny squares are popular, but I am sure there are many more!

Have a hooky day,

Lynne

Small Daisy Granny Square

Here we go a-skein something fresh off the hook. As promised the Small Daisy Granny Square just in time for Granny Square Day 2023! You can find information about the event which will be on August 15th, by clicking the following link GS Day 2023

This Daisy Square is revised from a previous pattern and is now a 4-inch square with a lacier edging. This square looks more like a real daisy. Check out the free pattern Small Daisy Granny Square

Each square was done in a different color combination using Stylecraft Special DK yarn, but any DK yarn will work for this granny square. Below is an up-close photo of each square and the color combinations used for each.

This pink square was done in Stylecraft Special DK- 1020 Lemon, 1263 Citron, 1240 Soft Peach, 1065 Meadow

The purple daisy square was done in Stylecraft Special DK, 1081 Saffron, 1263 Citron, 1001 White, 1390 Clematis, and 1265 Meadow.

The traditional daisy square was done in Stylecraft Special Dk 1081 Saffron, 1001 White, and 1065 White.

When I look at the photo of the three square together, I can see projects such as a baby blanket, place mats, or table runner, depending what type of dk yarn is used.

I hope you enjoy this pattern!

Have a hooky day,
Lynne

P.S. Let me know if you use this pattern for Granny Square day in the comments below.
