Scrapghan Update

Happy end of 2023! For my last post of 2023, I am reporting on the Scrapghan travel project. As mentioned in my post from September 28, 2023, I would be giving periodic updates on my Scrapghan. I was lucky enough to be able to visit my grandkids in Texas this week, so I had time to crochet on the plane.

So far I have been able to make 50, 4-row Framed Granny Squares and have started to join them together.

I tried different ways of joining the granny squares together, but for this project the invisible join method looked the best. B. Hooked Crochet has a great video explaining the invisible join method.

I look forward to a new year of yarn, patterns, and lots of crochet.

Have a hooky day!

Star Garland and Ornament

Happy Christmas Eve, Eve! I am posting the last pattern of 2023, it is in the same theme as the others patterns in December, make in a day or less gifts! If you know people who love stars, you can make this quick gift for them!

                                           Star Garland

After making the stars it was easy to see the different ways you could put the garland together, I made the silver stars into a more modern style garland and the gold stars into a country style garland.

                                                  The Modern Star Garland

This garland was done in stars made with silver yarn, and the crocheted hanger was done in dark silver yarn, each star was embellished with a silver button in the center.

                                         The Country Style Star Garland

This garland was made with stars crocheted with gold yarn. The stars were strung on twine and red bells were added between each star.

And lets not forget the ornaments

These easy to make stars can be done in a few hours! so grab your hook and yarn to make those last minute gifts!

Have a hooky holiday! Lynne

Gathered Headband/Ear Warmer

Hi, I hope everyone is doing well! This time of year can be crazy and hectic, with the holidays, cold weather and the kids out of school!

This week, the make in a day or less pattern is for those times when a beanie might make your head too hot, but you want to keep your ears from getting cold. Some people call it an ear warmer and others a headband, whatever it is called it is always a stylish item to have.

Here we go a skein Fresh off the hook, the:

                                       Gathered Headband/Ear Warmer

This easy to make Headband works up quick and can be resized by reducing the number of stitches or rows. It does not take a lot of yarn, so it is also a great stash buster. As you can see this headband can be made in many different colors of yarn and looks great in multi-color yarns!

Arcane Fibre works, Dk yarn, 100 m/110 yards (50g) Color: Fire and Ash

Stylecraft, Life Dk, 145m/150 yards (50g): Color: 2305 Cardinal and 2312 Copper

Just think what you can do with this headband, add a large button or a crocheted flower, the possibilities are endless! So grab your hook and yarn, and crochet away!

Have a hooky day! Lynne

Lip Balm Holder

This next pattern is for all the people who use lip balm, how many times has lip balm been forgotten, lost or fallen out of your pocket? In November I went to Santa Ana, Ca for a wedding and did not bring my lip balm, thankfully my sister had an extra lip balm! I do not want to do that again. Santa Ana, Ca is very dry and windy. In order to not forget my lip balm, I created a lip balm holder with a clip, that way I can clip one to my purse, backpack, put one on my key ring and have one to clip to my belt loop. Oh, did I forget to mention they are great stocking stuffers!

Here we go a skein, fresh off the hook:                                                                                                                           Lip Balm Holder

This one stitch (single crochet) Lip Balm Holder is very quick to stitch, so you could have a completed project in a few hours.

They take very little yarn, so this is a great stash buster project and if you have a few bobbles or buttons you can get creative! So grab your cotton Dk yarn, crochet hook, stitch marker, embellishments and whip up a few quick gifts!

I hope you enjoy the 5th make in a day pattern! (well, this is really two hours or less!)

Have a hooky day! Lynne

Tiny Bubble Cup Cozy

Yesterday, I was looking at my calendar to see what activities I have for the week ahead and I did not realize that Charismas was so close, only a few weeks away. It seems I never have time to crochet everything I want to for others.

This week as promised stocking stuffers! You can make these up in an hour or two and they are small enough to fit in a stocking. They also make great small gifts for friends, teachers, and last minute guests, when paired up with a reusable cup or gift card.

Here we go a skein, the:

                                   Tiny Bubble Cup Cozy

Unlike those cardboard cup holders you get with a to-go cup of coffee or tea (which always feels ruff and you can feel the heat of the coffee!). The Tiny Bubble cup cozy was made to feel comfortable while holding it in your hand.

This stash busting project has a great texture that looks complicated to create, but like most of the patterns at D60 Crochet, it is an easy pattern. It uses sc, hdc, and tr crochet stitches in a repeating pattern, so you will be able to crochet them up in no time!

Put the Cup Cozy together with a reusable cup and a coffee/tea gift card to make an awesome gift!

I hope you enjoy the 4th make in a day pattern!

Basket of Scrubbies

This weeks focus is personal gifts that you can make in one day or less. The first pattern for this week was released on Tuesday, called The Spa Day Set . In keeping with the theme, today's pattern is a useful item that would be great for the people on your list who are eco conscious. These face scrubbies are not only reusable but the yarn used to make them is made from recycled denim jeans! That's a double eco gift!

Here we go a skein, fresh off the hook:
                                                      Basket of Scrubbies
Like all the patterns here, this is an easy pattern great for crocheters of all skill levels. The face scrubbies are done in sc, hdc, and dc stitches and are complete in 5 rounds.
The mini basket for the scrubbies in done in hdc stitches with a reverse sc edging, and is complete in 8 rounds.
You can pair the basket of scrubbies up with a unique bar of soap to make a nice gift!
I hope you enjoy the third make in a day pattern! Next week is stocking stuffer week!

Spa Day Set

This week we will continue with gifts you can make in one day or less, with the focus on useful items that some would consider personal. When I was teaching, I would make small gifts for the office staff and they really liked getting personal handmade gifts!

Here we go a skein, make in a day #2:

                                      The Spa Day Set

This gift set includes a crochet wash cloth and a crochet bath puff, both made out of cotton dk yarn, using single crochet, half double crochet and double crochet stitches. You can make up this gift set with 1 skein of yarn and complete it in less than a day!

These easy to make bath puffs are eco-friendly and can replace those old plastic bath puffs.

The wash cloth has a open design, which allows for quick drying. Both the wash cloth and bath puff can washed in the washer as long as you put them in a garment bag and wash them in cold water. They will need to be air dried as dryers can be harsh.

To give as a gift, you can put the Spa Day Set in a gift bag or small basket, with a bar of soap, body lotion, bubble bath, or a bath bomb.

This is a great gift for a friend, neighbor, or teacher!

I hope you enjoy the second make in a day pattern!

Shell Stitch Cowl

Happy first day of December! Where did the year go? This is the time of year where many people get ready for gift giving. If you are like me, I have the thought in my mind to get started on gifts and before I know it December 1st is already here! This month we will focus on gifts that can be made in a day. These are great for giving to family members, co-workers, neighbors, and teachers. (the list could go on and on!)

Here we go a skein, fresh off the hook:

                                                 The Shell Stitch Cowl

A cowl makes is a great alternative to a scarf. The great thing about a cowl is that there are no ends to mess with. Just slip it over your head and go, no need to worry about making a even knot or what to do with the loose ends.

This cowl may look complicated but it is made using basic crochet stitches. The pattern uses sc and dc stitches and the knit look edging is done by working a few rows of shallow single crochet stitches.

I hope you enjoy the first Make in a day pattern!
