Color Block Baby Blanket

I can not believe that it is the end of March and Spring is here! Even though we are still getting rain, the weather is getting a little warmer!

This is the final pattern for March which will finish off baby blanket month. The final baby blanket pattern is the color block pattern. The color block pattern is great because it has a modern look and is versatile. It can be made with a variety of color combinations such as nautical colors, sport team colors, pastel colors or primary colors and can be tailored to any nursery color scheme. I wanted a stitch that looked good in a color block pattern, that was simple to learn, and created a beautiful texture and the lemon peel stitch fit the bill!

Here we go a skein, fresh off the hook:

The Lemon Peel stitch is done with two basic crochet stitches, the double crochet and the single crochet stitches. For this pattern all you do is alternate double crochet and single crochet stitches across each row, this makes a texture which ends up looking like the rind of a lemon peel. The great thing about the lemon peel stitch is that it creates a blanket that is completely reversable since the pattern is the same on both sides.

When I showed the blanket to my daughter, she said "the colors of the blanket reminded her of Neapolitan ice cream." My intention was to use Spring colors, but looking at the blanket in the photo below it sure does look like Neapolitan ice cream!

Grab your hooks and yarn, it's time to crochet for Spring and Summer!

Have a hooky day! Lynne
