Cross Granny Square


Yarn: Stylecraft Special DK - (1002 Black, 1001 White, 1068 Turquoise, 1034 Sherbet). Any DK yarn will work.


Materials: US Size H (4 mm) crochet hook, yarn Needle


Difficulty:  Advanced Beginner


Size: 5-inch square

Size gauge:

Through round 4 = 3 1/2 inches

Through round 6 = 5 inches


Stitch Guide:

ch(s) - chain(s), sc-single crochet, dc-double crochet, tr-treble crochet, st(s)-stitch(es), rnd(s)-round(s), bl-back loops

Notes:

The ch-1 at the beginning of each row does not count as a stitch.

Instructions:

Make a magic circle.

Round 1: ch 4, 3 tr in the circle, ch 5, * 4 tr in circle, ch 5; Repeat from * 2 more times, join to beg ch-4.  (16 tr + 4 ch-5 sps) 

Round 2: sc in the same st as join and in the next 3 tr, 5 sc in the ch-5 sp, * sc in the next 4 tr, 5 sc in the ch-5 sp; Repeat from * 2 more times, join to beg sc.  (36 sc)

Round 3: ch 1, working in bl, dc in the next 7 sc, * ch 5, dc in the next 9 sc, ch 5; Repeat from * 2 more times, dc in the next 2 sc, join to beg dc. (36 dc + 4 ch-5 sps)

Round 4: sc in the same st as join,  sc in the next 6 dc, * 5 sc in the ch-5 sp, sc in the next 9 dc, 5 sc in the ch-5 sp; Repeat from * 2 more times, sc in the next 2 dc, join to beg sc, (56 sc)

Round 5: ch 1, working in bl, dc in the next 9 sc,, * ch 5, dc in the next 14 sc, ch 5; Repeat from * 2 more times, dc in the next 5 sc, join to beginning dc. (56 dc + 4 ch-5 sps)

Round 6: sc in the same st as join, sc in the next 8 dc, 5 sc in the ch-5 sp, *sc in the next 14 dc, 5 sc in the ch-5 sp; Repeat from * 2 more times, sc in the next 5 dc, join to beginning sc. Fasten off. (76 sc).

Weave in ends and block.
